Christmas is my favourite time of year, lots of good food and catching up with friends and family. This weekend was my friends Christmas party, a chance for us to all get together in ridiculous fancy dress costumes and have fun. My friend Dave asked me to make a cake for the occasion and the only requirement was that it was big..
This is the tallest cake I have ever made.. a real challenge. The snowman is made from vanilla sponge using a circular pan and the other tiers are chocolate cake, an 11 inch 3 layer, a 9 inch 3 layer and a 7 inch 3 layer. I made the snowman head out of sugarpaste and the hat was made from a circle of flowerpaste for the hat rim and sugarpaste for the top. I used 3 dowels to support each layer of the cake. There are a number of different blogs that I use for tutorials and one I would like to share with you is jessicakes. I highly recommend you check out her blog which is full of fantastic cakes and tutorials.
This cake weighed a ton!! Transporting it was fun in my car which is a mini and feels every bump in the road but we got there in the end. I think the most stressful part of the whole cake decoration process has to be the transporting part. Its such a relief when the cake finally reaches its destination.
We had a cake cutting ceremony led by my friend Dave..

Happy baking everyone!
